Chingiz Aliyev

A seafarer who rose to the rank of captain. Served the Academy first as vice-rector, then as rector.

Biography

Chingiz Mansur oglu Aliyev was born on 5 January 1963 in Baku.

He graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Water Transport in 1986 with a degree in marine engineering.

Between 1987 and 1993 he rose from chief mate to the rank of captain at the Caspian Oil Fleet administration, and from 1993 to 1996 served there as deputy head of the maritime safety service. He was head of marine operations at British Petroleum from 1996 to 2006 and director of Caspian Marine Services LTD from 2006 to 2013.

From 2013 he was vice-rector for international relations at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy, and in 2014–2015 vice-rector for academic and student affairs. He also taught as an associate professor in the Navigation department.

While at Caspian Marine Services LTD he defended a dissertation on extending the service life of diesel engines by applying a porous coating to the outer surface of cylinder liners, earning a doctoral degree in engineering.

He was the author of 17 research papers, 2 textbooks, 1 monograph and 7 teaching manuals.
