Second higher education
Persons with higher education can obtain one of the maritime majors as a second major through part-time study on a fee-paying basis. Applications are submitted via portal.edu.az, and admission is conducted through an interview at the Academy.

Admission Pathway
Electronic application
Submit documents electronically on the portal.edu.az platform. Your basic education details must be reflected in the state electronic data system "Student-Graduate" (TM DEMS). Document submission in 2026 was conducted from June 9 to August 24.

Those registered and meeting the requirements are invited to the Academy for an interview. For applicants at sea on sailing vessels, the interview is organized online.
Original documents and contract
Those who pass the interview submit the original documents to the Academy's commission and sign a contract regarding tuition fees.

Who is it for
Second higher education is intended for individuals who hold a higher education degree and wish to obtain a maritime specialization: those who have completed higher education in one field and want to work at sea, or those working on ships who wish to supplement their diploma with a maritime major.
- Education is conducted on a contractual basis in majors offered by the Academy.
- The curriculum is structured based on the difference between the previous major and the new one: you may be exempted from subjects previously studied if their content corresponds.
- Groups consist of 15–30 students.
- Persons who obtained higher education abroad after 1993 can apply after their diplomas are recognized by the Ministry of Science and Education.

- 6006006 — Marine Navigation Engineering;
- 6006012 — Operation of Ship Power Plants Engineering.
Education is conducted part-time on a fee-paying basis.
Documents
Those invited to the interview submit:
- Application addressed to the Rector (application form).
- Notarized copy of the document on higher education (diploma and diploma supplement).
- Certificate from the place of employment (for those currently employed).
- 6 photos of 3×4 cm size.
- Copy of ID card.
- Medical certificate.
- Certificate of residence.
Tuition fee
The annual tuition fee is 3800 AZN (announcement for the 2026/2027 academic year).
What you receive
During the study period, along with an academic diploma, a Certificate of Competence (working diploma), a seafarer's record book, a seafarer's identity document, and relevant certificates are provided.
