“Best Teacher” Competition

A competition held every academic year to reveal creative, open to innovation teachers who stand out with successful teaching results. The winners are awarded by order of the Rector.

  • Eligible participantsTeachers with at least 5 years of experience
  • Stages3: examination, trial lesson, presentation
  • Winners10 teachers, by faculty quota

The purpose of the competition is to reveal creative teachers working at the Academy, to identify talented teachers successfully applying modern learning technologies, to create conditions for innovative teachers to demonstrate their pedagogical mastery, and to raise the status and prestige of the teacher.

The competition is organized by the management of the Academy every academic year. Its guidance and control are carried out on a voluntary basis by the Organizing Committee (vice-rectors, deans, and representatives of public organizations); controversial issues are reviewed by the appeals commission established by the Rectorate.

Conditions of Participation

Teachers whose main place of work is the Academy and who have at least five years of pedagogical experience can participate. The following are taken into account:

  • advanced training courses, trainings, and documents on the application of new learning technologies, participation in experience exchange courses abroad;
  • reports at pedagogical lectures and scientific-technical conferences, articles in scientific publications, authorship of textbooks and teaching aids;
  • successful results of students in semester exams, speeches at subject scientific conferences, and publications;
  • academic degree and academic title, state awards (“Shohrat” Order, “Taraggi” Medal, “Honored Teacher” honorary title, “Honorary Worker of the Fleet” badge), commendations from the Academy management;
  • ability to use information and communication technologies;
  • positive reviews in surveys of public organizations, departments, dean's offices, management, and students.

Stages

  1. Examination of documents. The teacher submits an application and copies of documents confirming the conditions to the Organizing Committee within the specified period (the application can also be sent by e-mail). Teachers who score higher points are admitted to the second stage.
  2. Trial lessons. Participants teach their subjects in academic groups. Subject commissions consisting of prominent scientists and methodologists, experienced specialists, and representatives of the public evaluate the lessons: choice of lesson format, involvement of students in problem solving, application of interactive methods, level of topic assimilation, and flexibility of assessment. Each open lesson is analyzed with the participation of the teacher.
  3. Presentation. Participants provide brief information about themselves to the Organizing Committee, deliver a 10-minute presentation on a topic proposed by the committee on current educational issues, and answer questions.

The timing of the stages is determined each year by the management of the Academy, and the evaluation scores by the Organizing Committee.

Final

The Organizing Committee establishes a quota by faculty according to the number of teachers and selects the 10 teachers who score the highest points based on the results of all three stages. The list is submitted to the Rector with a substantiated report; the winners are awarded the “Best Teacher” award by order of the Rector. A teacher who has received the award can participate in the competition again after four years.
