"Student of the Year" Competition

The Academy's highest honorary award for students who excel in education, science, and social life. The competition is held once a year in two rounds based on the results of the academic year.

The purpose of the competition is to raise the level of students in education, science, and profession, and to increase their activity in creative fields. As a result, the best student of the year is selected and their name is published on the website of the Academy.

Who Can Participate

2nd–4th year students studying with "excellent" and "good" grades, having achievements in research work, and actively participating in the social life of the Academy. The number of students admitted to the competition is determined annually by the commission; this number cannot exceed 10 percent of the students of each year of study.

Candidates are nominated by dean's offices, departments, and student public organizations.

Submitted Documents

  • copy of the academic record book;
  • list of scientific articles;
  • candidate information questionnaire;
  • opinion of the faculty Dean and public organizations on the student's social activity;
  • information on results and awards in student olympiads.

Evaluation

The final result is determined by three indicators: academic performance, research work, and social activity. The main criteria are high academic performance (average score above 91), participation in scientific research, social activity, and compliance with disciplinary rules.

Competition Process

  • The competition is announced once a year by the order of the Rector and conducted by a commission created by the order of the Rector.
  • The chairman of the commission is the Vice-Rector for Academic and Educational Affairs; its members include faculty Deans and deputy deans, one tutor for each specialty, and the chairmen of the Student Trade Union Committee and the Student Youth Organization.
  • Round 1 is held in the faculty commission (chairman: Dean; members: deputy dean, tutor, representatives of faculty trade union and youth organizations).
  • Round 2 is held in the competition commission of the Academy: the commission selects the best among the candidates nominated by the faculties.

Award

"Student of the Year" is the highest honorary award of the Academy and is transitional in nature: the honorary title is presented with a diploma, a cup, and a monetary award.
